Things to do with Children

On the doorstep…

West Somerset Railway runs steam trains several times a day for most of the year (plus a few diesels, but they don’t count in my book!). Blue Anchor Station is a few yards from the chalet, and the kids can take you on lovely old trains to Watchet and as far as Bishop’s Lydeard near Taunton, or via Dunster to Minehead.

A few minutes’ walk away is the Blue Anchor Hoburne holiday park. For a few pounds, you can use the indoor swimming pool or the crazy golf course. There is also a free kids’ playground:

The Driftwood café is even closer and caters for all of the family. The local pubs, The Blue Anchor and The Smugglers, both welcome children (and dogs).

A bit farther out…

Watchet – see the boats in the Marina. Nearby Tropiquaria has something for all the family.

Dunster – historic village and castle.

Minehead – classic seaside town with many shops, cafes and amusements plus a Lifeboat station. Butlins is in Minehead, and they do day passes for the family.

At the chalet…

The simple design of the chalet makes it ideal for young families. The living room/bedroom is spacious and there is a small, enclosed paved area just outside the patio doors. There is plenty of space for indoor activities, and there is a TV with DVD player when all other ideas have dried up! There are a few books and games  in the chalet.
